Does Jesus Care? (1 Peter 5:6-7)

Depression is a major concern in our country; in our world.

  • Humble yourself = means admit you need help
  • Proper time = means whenever God gets the greatest glory!
  • Casting all your anxiety = literally means to throw yourself down and cry out to God "I'm hurting inside!!!"

Famous Depressed Dudes in the Bible: Moses, Jonah, Job, David, Paul, Elijah
(I also think of Jeremiah)

How to get depressed in 3 easy steps:

  1. Isolate yourself
  2. Focus on the negative
  3. Forget God's provision

Elijah - greatest prophet but still succeptible to depression so how much more are we?

The timing of depression. It usually happens after:

  • intense ministry
  • relational conflict
  • physical trauma
  • major victory
  • huge disappointment
  • major loss
  • change in diet

Coming OUT of depression:

  1. Let God speak! -the Word, Christian music
  2. Receive God's provision - open your heart, let people minister to you
  3. Get involved with people - help somebody else!
